Gigamon to Provide Traffic Visibility for World's Fastest Network at SC11

Joins Top Educational and Research Institutions, High Performance Computing Centers, Network Equipment Vendors, U.S. Laboratories, Research Networks and Telecommunication Carriers To Define Future of Networking

SILICON VALLEY, Calif. — Gigamon®, the world leader in Traffic Visibility Networking solutions, today announced it will provide the visibility fabric for network security at SCinet, the world's fastest network serving SC11, the annual international conference for High Performance Computing, networking, storage and analysis. The SCinet team will run Gigamon's visibility fabric technology to deliver pervasive network visibility and to reduce the volume of traffic destined for the security and monitoring infrastructure. This will protect the event cyber infrastructure to ensure maximum performance and reliability throughout the conference.

SCinet uses premier networking technologies to build the fastest network in the world; powerful enough to transfer nearly 500 gigabits of data per second. This high-performance network is built each year by volunteers for SC exhibitors and attendees to showcase their world-class research, production HPC and advanced computing resources. SCinet features a state-of-the-art network that allows attendees and exhibitors to connect to the Internet and research networks around the world and the Research Sandbox which provides researchers a platform for experimentally testing and demonstrating innovative architectures, applications and protocols in the live SCinet network environment.

Gigamon has been integrated into the SCinet infrastructure for the past 3 years to help monitor and secure its network operation centers and Internet access gateway. Gigamon will provide a traffic visibility fabric for monitoring and securing the network. The SCinet platform connects multiple 10 and 100 Gbps circuits to research and commercial networks around the world. Gigamon will aggregate the multiple 10Gbps connections between the border routers/WAN, while replicating and load balancing this traffic before delivering it to the monitoring infrastructure. The Visibility Fabric provides intelligent traffic filtering resulting in the elimination of superfluous traffic, ensuring that critical traffic is delivered to the centralized security suite. In addition, GigaSMART Stripping technology will be used to conduct VLAN header stripping of all network tools used to build SCinet to enable monitoring and protection of all traffic.
