Copenhagen, March 16, 2016: Xena Networks, the global leader in Gigabit Ethernet Test Equipment Price Performance, has earned a Lightwave Innovation Award for its hugely popular “tri-speed” “triple-media” Gigabit Ethernet Test Module.
“Xena is very proud to win an Innovation Award from Lightwave,” says Jacob Nielsen, CEO at Xena Networks. “We are committed to providing our customers with ground-breaking Gigabit Ethernet test and measurement solutions and the success of the M1CFP4QSFP28CXP showcases what Xena is capable of.”
The true value of the product lies in the fact that many companies need to test if their equipment and/or networks can handle 10, 40 and 100 Gigabit Ethernet traffic. The catch is that 100G equipment will typically have one of three transceiver interfaces – CFP4, QSFP28 and CXP and up until now companies have had to buy a different 100G test module for each interface.
“This is expensive and slows down testing,” explains Jacob Nielsen. “Further they will often have to also buy separate test ports for testing 10G and 40G traffic.”
To address this problem, Xena developed a unique “tri-speed” test module (i.e. 100G/40G/10G) that also lets test engineers choose between the three 100G interfaces.
Low-Cost Flexibility is a Key Differentiator
“This can result in significant savings because now they only need buy one test module instead of multiple units for each interface,” confirms Jacob Nielsen.
Further, when the CXP form-factor is selected, the user can, in addition to a single 100G test port, also use the test module to provide two 40G test ports or eight 10G test ports.
“This flexibility and price/performance makes it ideal for BERT, load-stress, and functional testing of Ethernet equipment and network infrastructure,” explains Jacob Nielsen, CEO at Xena Networks.
Eye Diagram Measures Signal Integrity
Another compelling feature of Xena’s M1CFP4QSFP28CXP test module is software that can analyze signal quality. The “eye diagram” feature is part of the XenaManager-2G SW package that Xena provides (free of charge) with all systems sold. When using CFP4 and QSFP28/QSFP+ ports on the M1CFP4QSFP28CXP, an additional panel called “Advanced PHY Features“ will appear in the main Resource Properties tab of XenaManager-2G. This panel controls and monitors the four receive SerDes associated with the 4x10G or 4x25G link at the physical level. It also creates bit-error-rate (BER) eye diagrams, estimates the link BER from the vertical and horizontal BER bathtub curves and controls the PHY tuning in the transmit and the receive directions. Xena’s “eye diagram” feature saves customers the need for purchasing and managing another dedicated device (Oscilloscope) for measuring the visual representation of the signal quality.
Together with the triple-media and tri-speed capabilities, the “eye diagram” feature clearly puts the M1CFP4QSFP28CXP test module into a class of its own and secured it a final score of 4 from Lightwave’s review panel which indicates a “superb product that sets new standard for performance and provides groundbreaking and new technical milestones”.
The M1CFP4QSFP28CXP test module has already been sold to numerous customers in the USA, Asia and EMEA regions, including terabit-size installations.
